Biografia

 

Lee Van Cleef: Nato a Somerville, New Jersey, USA - il 9 gennaio 1925

                            Deceduto a Oxnard, California, USA - il 16 dicembre 1989 per crisi cardiaca.

 

 

Uno dei simboli del genere Western in tutto il mondo. Con la sua partecipazione ad alcuni tra i migliori western mai prodotti (merito anche della sua interpretazione) è entrato a far parte della leggenda insieme ad altri tre o quattro grandi attori del genere: John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Tom Mix e pochi altri che saltano subito in mente al semplice suono della parola Western. 

 

Ha lavorato per i più grandi registi che si sono distinti in questo genere, il suo esordio sul grande schermo con il capolavoro "Mezzogiorno di Fuoco" (1951) per poi approdare in Italia con "Per qualche dollaro in più" (1965) e "Il Buono, il Brutto e il Cattivo" (1966) dove incarnò un personaggio che lo avrebbe fatto entrare nell'Olimpo degli attori, ma che fece fatica a scrollarsi di dosso negli anni successivi. 

 

Ad Antonio Margheriti si deve la riscoperta di questo grande attore in una fase calante della sua carriera, inizialmente con un paio di Western, dove i due rimasero legati da profonda amicizia. Poi Antonio lo chiamò per "Controrapina" un film d'azione dove Lee Van Cleef  vestiva i panni di un personaggio diverso dal solito e dove rese una mirabile interpretazione. In seguito accompagnò Antonio Margheriti nel suo "periodo Filippino" con tre film avventurosi: "Arcobaleno Selvaggio", "La leggenda del Rubino Malese" e "The Commander".
