Biography

Edoardo Margheriti (Dan Edwards): born in Rome - 15 February 1959

Edoardo follows his father's steps since very young, working with him in all his films since 1977. Naturally gifted by a great manual ability and artistic taste, he begins working in models and miniature constructions for the special effects of Antonio Margheriti's films. The first small job in 1973 when he build at home couple of models, almost for fun, then he realize some more models for "Killer Fish" and following he became the Special Effects coordinator in all the other films of Antonio. Since 1984 he realize all miniatures and special effects constructions with his own company, the "Trickmaster". He also made models and effects for commercials and films by other directors, like: Sergio Martino, for the post atomic Science Fiction;  "2019, after the fall of di New York" (it's a coincidence that also Edoardo, move his first steps alone in the movie business with a Science Fiction film, like his father twenty years before), after he made some miniatures for "Cuori di Pietra" a TV movie directed by Steno (Stefano Vanzina) , for who he will also direct a second unit; then the: "La Voglia di Vivere" by Dino Risi;  "La moglie ingenua ed il marito malato" by Mario Monicelli; after he will construct and coordinate the shooting of the airplane crash for "Selvaggi" a comedy by Carlo Vanzina; and a western train which explode on a bridge for the TV series  "Lucky Luke" by Terence Hill; and finally, he also supervise some special effects for "Cicken Park" a parody of Jurassic Park made by Gerry Calà, a film in which was also the Line Producer.

Edoardo has been the Assistant Director, and the Second Unit Director in over fifteen films of Antonio Margheriti, and in many others the Production Manager or the Line Producer. But in all his movies, he have  realized the Special Effects, sometimes spectaculars, which characterized the films and the style proper of Anthony M. Dawson. In 1989 he had the chance to direct his first film, been commissioned of two very low budget Action Movies: "The Black Cobra 2" and  "Black Cobra 3", sequels of a film with Fred Williamson, a quite famous black actor and ex football star. The first film comes out pretty well and the foreign distributor commission him right away the second one. Also if they were only designated to a secondary foreign market, mostly home video, Edoardo it's been noted by other Italian producers who's offering him other projects, like "The House 5", film never been made by Edoardo but who has created a big confusion in the followers of this kind of horror films. After few months, during a very bad crisis in the Italian cinema, Edoardo refuse other similar offers: films to be made with less than a low budget, running like crazy and careless of any quality, almost reaching the trash. Consequently, he decide to work in production department, and he does it  with great results, reaching in a very short time the title of Line Producer.

In ten years he made a huge experience, even working for American multimillion $ Major Productions, like: "Hudson Hawk" (1991) (in the photo with Bruce Willis and his brother David) an Action Comedy with Bruce Willis and Danny Aiello produced by Tri Star Columbia; He became Line Producer in "Lucky Luke" (1992) a TV series with Terence Hill; then "Genghis Khan" (1992 - 1993) a Kolossal for television directed by Ken Annakin and Antonio Margheriti, a TV series unfortunately never completed and suspended after two years of work; then is time to "Chicken Park" (1994) by Gerry Calà; "Virtual Weapon" (1996) the last film directed by Antonio Margheriti; "The Son of Sandokan" (1996) by Sergio Sollima; "The Seventh Scroll" (1997-1998) by Kevin Connor, a miniseries from the novels of Wilbur Smith (The Seventh Scroll and The River's God); e go on up to the big TV productions like: "Elisa di Rivombrosa" (2001-2002) by Cinzia Th Torrini for TPI & Mediaset, where he also direct an action unit for a lot of sequences; finally "Attenti a quei tre" (2003) by Rossella Izzo, produced by Publispei for Rai TV.

From a while, especially after Antonio's disappearing, he decide to go back directing films. He wants to keep doing the kind of film of his father (the Family style) and making also some film that Antonio did not have enough time to make it. He said smiling: "I hope that I can do at least half of what, stylistically, made my father... Anyway, I've decide to change, or much better to go back, to directing because on the Film Market should always have to be a director named Margheriti..." The adventure continues...
